Believe it or not, there’s actually so much to do in Ubud at night! Where do we start? If you can drag yourself away from your luxe villa or resort to explore, you will be pleasantly surprised to discover what the nightlife in Ubud is all about. Don’t expect an endless succession of bars and clubs but do expect a range of interesting and devilicious diversions.

See A Cultural Dance – a pleasing way to start off the night is with a cultural performance, at one of the many bale banjars or at the Ubud Palace where they give a nightly performance. Located in the centre of town, it is always a good place to start. Performances are authentic and pleasing and you can always buy your tickets from one of the traditionally dressed men or women in the street who work to raise money for their own banjar (village community). This is the ‘real Bali’ version of Ubud nightlife, but definitely a must. The shows are over by 9pm at the latest, leaving time for more fun activities afterwards.

Dance the Night Away – dancing, especially salsa and Latin American has become very big in Ubud and every night of the week, you will find a dance at one of the popular venues. Monday is Indus in Jl Raya Sanggingan.  Salsa Night every Monday starting at 7.30pm with live band. Wednesday is CP Lounge. Latin live starting at 9-30-12-30.  Warung Gana in Jl Raya Pengosekan has dancing and a live band from 8.00-10-30. You can ask around for other venues or check

Post Temple Tipples and Late Night Cocktails

Aperitif – this very sophisticated restaurant comes with a superb bar which stays open til 12 unless there‘s a party roaring, when it stays open until last man standing. Beautiful décor, and premium which drinks come at a price, but it’s worth it. Your hangover will only be of the best quality. (

Nightlife in Ubud

Divine Wine Bar in Sangginan is Bridges’ lovely wine bar looking out over the palm shrouded River Wos. Premium cocktails and an excellent wine selection and snacks make this another gorgeous place for a tipple. Open til midnight. (

Room 4 Dessert- New Yorker Will Goldfarb has created a popular spot for late night drinks and luscious desserts.  Expect premium pours and classic cocktails, like the Fabulous Negroni or a Manhattan! It’s another must try on the Ubud roundabout, you will find it just down the road from Naughty Nuris.(

The Night Rooster – Located directly above the Golden Monkey Chinese Restaurant on Jl Dewi Sita, the night Rooster speakeasy is known for its cosy ambience and innovative cocktails. Brought to you by the creators of Locavore, it is no surprise that innovation is a feature which also shines through in their international small plates. Opens from 4pm-12pm. (

Singular Events

The Melting Pot Saloon – fancy a quiet or not so quiet game of pool? Then head to the Melting Pot Saloon in Jl Raya, Pengosekan, the southern extension of Jl Hanoman. This is so American Wild West, you feel the need to hang your guns at the door and pull out your passport to get in. Tex Mex style food, Cajun chips, plenty of drinks, mostly premium and a range of beers together with lots of pool tables and a host of characters makes for an interesting evening.

You can play your own game or once a week they have tournaments where you just write up your name on the board for some serious competition. (

Naughty Nuris – even though it has lost its original edge, since owner Brian no longer officiates, Nuris is a great place for ribs and a stiff drink. All drinks are premium and pack a punch and some nights you will find a few of the old regulars who add spice to any conversation. The warm atmosphere and eclectic crowd make it a great place to while away a night! A great place to soak up the Ubud nightlife atmosphere of yesteryear!(

Watch a Movie at the Paradiso Ubud – In Jl Goutama, close to Taksu Spa, this cosy little cinema has comfy lounges to luxuriate upon while immersing yourself in a movie. They’re defined as an ‘organic vegan cinema’; check their website for their eclectic movie choices and choose healthy snacks from their menu that comes in the dark with a waitress and a torch. Their movies cover all categories and  you can be sure of seeing something worth watching. (

The woowoo crowd is well catered for at Akasha – an alternative venue a little out of town. Loads of bamboo architecture amongst the rice fieldsmake this the venue for new-age extravagance. Seeing is believing – well almost. Check their site for current events, or try a sunset juice.(

Honourable Mentions for Nightlife in Ubud

Laughing Buddha, CP Lounge and XL Shisha Lounge – all within walking distance of each other – are generally the places where the nightlife in Ubud crowd ends up. Affordable drinks, music and a cool ambience ensure memorable nights.

Laughing Buddha Bar on Jl. Monkey Forest has their full menu restaurant open til 1am and most every night there is live music playing in this teeny cosy venue. It is ever popular with all kinds of visitors and residents (

In the same street No Mas Bar has live music nightly and a lively crowd. Happy hour starts from 5pm- open til 1am. (

CP Lounge is a big lounge with pool tables and plentiful drinks at bargain prices as well as a full menu including good steaks. Guaranteed a memorable night, which really lasts long into the wee hours. Their small, indoor club is where the real Ubud party-goers may finish off the night (

XL Shisha Lounge looks directly over the football field and is also popular with Ubud’s late night crowd. Enjoy flavoured shisha, cool drinks or food from the hot menu while listening to good music. It is definitely a popular place to chill, early or  late, whatever suits you!
