The Lunar New Year is here, and that means feasts, lion dances and our favourite red envelopes, or ang pao! This 2018 we welcome the Year of the Dog and whilst the festivities are always fun, it’s really a time for family and friends.

Chinese New Year’s Eve Dinner

Embrace the festive mood the Chinese New Year with a lavish buffet dinner, featuring dishes that are believed to bring health, wealth and happiness! First and foremost is the Yee Sang ‘tossing’, to welcome luck and prosperity into the new year. Dinner will be accompanied by authentic Wushu and Dragon dances, a custom during Lunar New Year celebrations.

Thursday, 15 February at the Jimbaran Gardens, 7pm onwards. IDR 550,000++ per person, children under 7 dine for free when dining with an adult.

Lanterns for Luck 

Another tradition celebrated during this time is the releasing of flying lanterns; when you light and release yours, you release it with a wish for good luck, in hope that this lantern reaches the stars and grants you a prosperous new year. Gather with family and close friends and huddle around the warmth of the light, watch as you all release your dreams and watch the starry sky together.

Little Lunars

Kids can enjoy the celebrations of the Lunar New Year as well at Planet Trekkers, InterContinental’s special educational kids club. They can enjoy a special Chinese-themed activities including Chinese lantern making (10.30am-11.30am), Chinese cooking decorations (2pm-3pm) and fun ‘chopstick games’ (3pm-4.30pm) .

Entry fee for Planet Trekkers is required for non-club guests, with an additional IDR 100,000++ per child for Chinese cookies decorating.
