Svasita Art Exhibition by Cakravala

Śvasita: Finding solace in art

Featuring Didin Jirot, Cassandra Louise, Wayan Yusa Dirgantara, Satria T. Nugraha, Imes Paskalia, Putu Surya Dharma Putra, Naomi Samara, Andre Yoga and Surya Art Studio, ‘Śvasita’ opens at Titik Dua Ubud in Bali from 16 April 2022 and runs through to 14 May 2022. Curated by Cakravala, an independent platform for young, emerging artists in Indonesian.

Exhibition notes:

At the core of the Javanese mysticism known as ‘kebatinan’, there lies a belief towards the powerful forces of life and the ethereal world. Its origins are rooted in the ideas and practices of different cultural groups and spiritual tradition. However, in modern culture, kebatinan has become an amalgamation of Hindu-Buddhist, Islamic and indigenous animist beliefs and practices anchored by the essential oneness of all existence. Practised in various forms, including meditation, fasting and shared discussions, the purpose behind kebatinan is to embrace life in all its minuscule detail. Here, life is seen as a mystical journey where we experience the different stages that take us from the outer to the inner realm. From thought-centred to feeling-centred, kebatinan highlights the importance of experiencing rather than becoming a passive victim of fate.

Today, emerging Indonesian artists consider understanding the world around them through art as part of their spiritual practices. As they gather in a shared space, each artist is connected through the mind – overcoming the
illusion of forced separation from others that we have experienced over the past two years. Equivalent to the mystical journey is the artistic journey, where the process of creating art is experienced as an exploration between form and no form, between which is but which cannot be put into words, and that which can be realised and formulated.

This exhibition captures the different stages of healing and restoration, with each artist uniting the mind with action and matter. Through every hurdle and loss, every setback and change, they draw on themes of human experiences and spiritual insight. As they continue to
