‘Alchemy of the Soul’ Art Exhibition at INDUS

14 new paintings and translucent installations grace the walls of INDUS Art Space, Ubud. ‘Alchemy of the Soul’ is an exhibition by artist Alex Florschutz, who invites audiences to explore the relationship between the visible world and our inner lives.

At the heart of nearly every work is a source of light, breaking through deep blues and darkness, rising from water, unfolding from a flower, glowing from the heart or the womb. The works are concerned with transformation: the quiet alchemy by which light, warmth and love soften what has hardened. Drawing on enduring themes of the feminine, birth, sexuality, nature and creativity, forms emerge, dissolve and reappear, inviting the viewer’s imagination to participate in what is seen.

Alongside the canvases, selected works are printed on suspended panels of translucent chiffon, allowing light to pass through the images and visitors to walk among them. The installation also features a fire lotus image developed with the assistance of AI, which served as an early visual touchstone for the series.

The paintings offer no fixed narrative. Instead, they invite a slower kind of looking, engaging feeling and intuition as much as intellect. Underpinning the exhibition is the belief that the spiritual can find expression through the material world. The exhibition is accompanied by a short video work reflecting on the making of the series.

Ultimately, Alchemy of the Soul is not simply an exhibition to be viewed, but an invitation to experience something beyond what is immediately visible. What each visitor discovers may be entirely their own.
