“Rwa Bhineda” & “Painting for Ants: The Bali Collection”

From 9 May to 13 July 2025, Pererenan gallery space – SUN.CONTEMPORARY – presents dual exhibitions: “Rwa Bhineda” and “Painting for Ants: The Bali Collection”.

Opening simultaneously on Friday, 9 May 2025, “Rwa Bhineda” is an exploration of Balinese duality through traditional and contemporary art, curated by Brina Paska in the Main Gallery, whilst “Painting for Ants: The Bali Collection” showcases new works by South African artist, Lorraine Loots, globally renowned for her remarkable miniature painting series, displayed in the Project Room.

“Rwa Bhineda” features 17 distinguished Indonesian artists examining the delicate balance between opposing forces. The exhibition distinctively positions traditional and modern artworks side by side, forming dynamic dialogues between different artistic expressions. The exhibition’s featured artists include A. Sebastianus, Cokorda Raka Sedana, Helen Tan Keng, I Gede Sukarya, Ines Katamso, I Made Griyawan, I Made Sesangka, I Nyoman Bratayasa, Mangku Muriati, Ni Ketut Sumiartini, Ni Luh Pangestu, Ni Nyoman Merti, Ni Wayan Mimin Mirayanti, Nugi Ketut, Sarita Ibnoe, I Komang Subrata, and Valasara.

Meanwhile, Lorraine Loots’ exhibition showcases the artist’s meticulous practice, which earned global recognition through her “365 Paintings for Ants” project. Having been featured in major media outlets including CNN and The Huffington Post, her work explores themes of nostalgia, sentiment, and the significance of dates as personal markers.

The exhibitions will be complemented by interactive workshops, including a weaving workshop led by acclaimed textile artist Sarita Ibnoe on 24 May 2025 at 4 PM, as well as a Batuan painting workshop conducted by I Made Griyawan and Studio Gelombang on 12 July 2025 at 11 AM.

Additionally, the signature “At The Table” dining series will feature innovative Indonesian cuisine by rising culinary star Sabrina Alatas on 7 June 2025. Sabrina will showcase a menu that bridges traditional and contemporary gastronomy, served in a communal style alongside live performances.

The opening reception will be held on Friday, 9 May 2025, from 6 PM and is open to the public.
