On the 17th of August 2016, Indonesia celebrates its 71st year of Independence! A proud day for all Indonesians, as they raise their flags and enjoy a day of revelries, games and good times with friends, families and communities.

This year, at The Bay Bali, a beachfront dining and entertainment complex in Nusa Dua, a two-day festival will be held in honour of Independence Day. On Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th of August, Festival Merdeka (merdeka meaning independence) will see the spirit of Indonesia’s Merah Putih (Red and White, like Indonesia’s flag) taking over.

The biggest highlights of every Independence Day in the country are the classic “17th Games” or “Lomba 17-an”, such as: eating crackers (kerupuk) off a string, Bakiak Races, the Greasy Pole, amongst others.

There will be loads of entertainment but the special guest stars of the festival will be Dialog Dini Hari, a popular Balinese folk trio. Other than this there will be an all-day bazaar, a children’s marching band, dance performances, live band, a traditional ‘Keroncong’ music night, Merah-Putih children’s modeling competition. Side activities also include henna, face painting, tarot card reading, fruit carving, kite painting and more.

Festival Merdeka is totally free for the public; The Bay Bali wants everyone to embrace the spirit of Indonesia this year and where better than in Bali! The Bay Bali, as its name suggests, is found within a secluded bay in Nusa Dua, a tranquil alcove with white sand and calm blue waters perfect for children.

As a dining and entertainment complex, The Bay’s restaurants will have special food and beverage offerings during the festival so make sure to check out: Bebek Bengil, Ocean Star, Hong Xing , Agendaz Beach Club, Surf & Turf, and Pirates Bay Bali.

A little extra incentive for the children: with Pokémon Go spreading like wild fire around the world, The Bay Bali is providing the ‘Lure Module’ for all Pokemon Go Trainers during the festival. The Bay itself has several PokéStops so kids can come and try to ‘catch them all!’
