It isn’t often that Bali’s classic tourism hotspot simmers down to silence. Legian has long been known for its lively lifestyle and late night revelries but on one day of the year, the area finds itself enjoying a moment of blissful peace.

On Hari Raya Nyepi – Bali’s new year’s day that this year falls on Saturday, 17 March, 2018 – the whole island will be in total silence and darkness. So, to capture this rare moment, The Stones is offering a special Nyepi stay package so that you can experience a specially quiet Legian.

As Nyepi requires all on the island to stay indoors for 24 hours, The Stones Legian is offering a special, two-night stay experience from the 16th-18th March 2018. Of course, as you’ll be spending the full day indoors on Nyepi, the hotel will cater for all your needs.

Their special package includes: buffet breakfast for two people, poolside activities throughout the day (Yoga and water aerobics), buffet dinner for two on Nyepi Day (17th), complimentary entry to The Stones Cinema (6-11pm) and 20% discount on Food & Beverage consumption and spa experiences at Celestine Spa.

Perhaps the best thing about staying in The Stones is how close it is to Legian’s ‘Ngrupuk’ ceremony, part of the pre-Nyepi rituals that sees giant monster effigies (or ogoh-ogoh) paraded through the streets. The demonic figures are lined up on Jalan Legian (road) from 4pm the day before Nyepi, before being carried to the temple at Jalan Raya Legian. It’s a lively display, and since the roads are closed it’s best to be walking distance to catch it. Before this however, the island also experiences a “cleansing ritual” called Melasti, where you’ll see hundreds of Balinese processions taking place.

Nyepi starts when the sun rises on the 17th until it rises again on the 18th, during this time you won’t be able to leave the property. It may sound daunting having to stay indoors but really its an opportunity to kick back and really relax. The Stones has complimentary WiFi throughout the hotel, the wonderful Celestine Spa, Gaia Fitness Center, the Jasper Kids Club, 3 unique restaurants and of course their amazing outdoor pool (also a great spot to star gaze at night – Nyepi evenings are renowned for their starry skies).
