If you’re seeking an evening of flavour and flair, then head to the dramatic cliffs of Ungasan as Waatu is thrilled to announce its upcoming culinary collaboration. Brace yourselves for Waatu’s highly anticipated Yakitori Showdown, featuring an exclusive team-up between Waatu’s Executive Chef Lachlan Budd and one of Australia’s most respected chefs, Joel Bickford.

Set to be held on Friday, 29 August 2025, the Yakitori Showdown marks a special reunion for the two prolific chefs following the positive reception of their past collaboration. Celebrated for his innovative and visually captivating dishes, Chef Joel Bickford is the Culinary Director of The Point Group in Sydney. This upcoming collaboration is set to showcase an evolution of their combined talent.

Bringing his in-depth knowledge of local flavours and nature-inspired cooking style, Chef Budd will bring his unique touch to the table. Meanwhile, Chef Bickford’s extensive career and impressive recognitions will demonstrate his mastery of flavours, textures, and presentation. This much-anticipated event will see old colleagues come together once more, showcasing their mutual respect and shared culinary vision.

Held at Waatu’s poolside area, fire will play a key role in the evening, where the experience is structured into two distinct parts. The evening begins with a laid-back outdoor dinner, serving a six-course menu cooked over coals, embracing Waatu’s signature cooking style. To keep anticipation running high, the menu will only be unveiled on the day of the event. This is followed by Waatu’s first-ever supper club, where it will evolve into a private party, delivering wood-fired snacks alongside select whiskies.

Guests can expect a remarkable evening of delectable culinary creations, where both chefs’ individual styles will come together to create a multi-course menu. This collaboration is set to showcase their shared commitment to incorporating high-quality ingredients and innovative cooking techniques, promising a dining adventure that will leave a lasting impression on guests.

The Yakitori Showdown will be held from 6 PM to 10 PM, with prices starting from IDR 1,450,000++ per person (food only).

Adding to the pre-Yakitori Showdown excitement, Chef Lachlan Budd and Chef Joel Bickford will also host an exclusive Asado night at Sundays Beach Club on Wednesday, 28 August 2025.
