It’s an exciting moment for Bali, as the iconic Seminyak destination, Potato Head Beach Club, reopens after more than a year of closure.
At the start of 2021, the Potato Head Family, had finally completed a ten-year project of creating ‘Desa Potato Head’ (Potato Head Village), with the final piece of the puzzle – Potato Head Studios – open and operating. Soon after, the entire complex, complete with beach club, multiple restaurants, two hotels, music library and more, had to close down completely.
The group has announced that finally Desa Potato Head will begin its phase-by-phase reopening journey starting with the Beach Club on Sunday 16 May 2021.
Yes, that means that their sun-drenched sounds are making a comeback, as are the locally inspired drinks, earth-conscious eats and epic sunsets. The daybeds are asking to be lazed on, the infinity pool is ready for dipping in
Furthermore, Kaum, one of Bali’s top Indonesian restaurants, will reopening on the same day.
The group has announced that their team, or ‘family’ as they refer to them, have all been re-trained in the latest health safety protocols and the space itself has been reconfigured to align with the recommended social distancing measures. Strict sanitisation is also top priority, so expect the Desa to sparkle.

This is a significant moment for Bali, as hotels and businesses in Seminyak have been awaiting for more attractions to entice guests to return to the area. Thus far, the empty atmosphere of Seminyak has meant it has been less attractive for potential visitors – especially domestic tourists. This opening may just breathe new life into the area and help other businesses too.
What have the group been doing whilst they were closed?
Their team have been working hard over the past year to establish Sweet Potato Project: a farming initiative to help feed their staff and other communities that have needed support during the pandemic. Vegetables are being grown and harvested at what was set to become their next development in Tabanan.
Their kitchen team turns this produce into plant-based nasi bungkus (rice packages) which they deliver in a bio- fuelled bus from their friends at Green School. They’re also preparing 20 community gardening plots in Berawa that can be rented by anyone who is keen to grow their own.
This project has brought their team joy in these challenging months. They have delivered more than 10,000 healthy meals to date. The plants are grown responsibly using syntropic farming principles and over 500 of their staff have come together to bring both gardens to life.
In June, Potato Head will be launching sustainism activities for kids and their Potato Head Studios are set to open during the month of July.
