Padang Padang Surf Camp Skate

At Padang Padang Surf Camp, surf training now extends beyond the water with a new purpose-built surf skate bowl and pump track, alongside a sauna and ice bath. Operating in Uluwatu since 2005, the camp has developed its land-based facilities to complement its coaching approach, giving surfers more ways to practise technique, build confidence and recover between sessions.

The new skate bowl and pump track provide a practical way for guests to repeat movements that can be difficult to isolate in the ocean. During video analysis, coaches can identify details such as weight shifts, turns and body positioning, then help surfers translate those movements onto a surf skate before returning to the waves.

For beginners, a covered flat surface provides a controlled environment to develop balance and confidence. More experienced surfers can use the bowl and track to work on speed, rhythm and linking turns, reinforcing techniques that can later be applied in the water.

The facilities also form part of the camp’s specialist retreat programmes. Surf progression retreats with Surfing With Grant combine detailed video feedback with practical sessions in the bowl and ocean, creating a structured approach to improving technique.

A new recovery area adds another element to the camp experience, with a handcrafted Javanese teak sauna positioned alongside an ice bath. Both are available daily, allowing guests to alternate between heat and cold after surfing or training as part of their recovery routine.

Based within the camp, the facilities are also incorporated into Uluwatu Surf & Yoga Retreats. Its small-group programmes combine surfing with yoga, breathwork and wellbeing for a broader approach to an active retreat.

With its combination of surf coaching, skate training and recovery facilities, Padang Padang Surf Camp offers guests more opportunities to refine their skills on land before practicing them in the water. Flexible-date surf camp stays can be booked directly through the camp, while scheduled retreats are available through Uluwatu Surf & Yoga Retreats.
