Currently in our beloved South Bali, barely a day passes without news of an exciting new restaurant opening, or a groundbreaking, must-try dish. Yet, despite all the big gun chains and more storming into town creating traffic jams and seating areas that overlook the gridlocked road, FIRE seems to keep people heading north.

Talk about bravado. Or maybe they just knew that the strength of their menu, their hospitality and the quality of their food would find a local following quickly. And that has already happened. It’s just hard not to love FIRE, especially for a meat lover like me. For me, it’s the restaurant’s unconditional love of meat that drives the menu – both the chef and his team have done a stellar job fashioning the offerings.

Walking in, I found the atmosphere of the restaurant instantly lively and somewhat fiery. That’s right, fire really matters in this restaurant, a lot. In fact, in keeping with its name, fire dominates the restaurant’s decor; from the color theme to the restaurant’s piece de resistance, a fire chandelier.

The open kitchen lets the patron know from the minute they enter, that the food and its preparation are the heart of the restaurant. Depsite the eye-drawing décor around the restaurant the artistry that takes place in the kitchen immediately grabs your attention to a well-orchestrated flurry of activity as the kitchen wizards go about, preparing your dish. From gourmet pizzas to freshly sourced fine meats and seafood to stir-frys in the wok, as well as a plethora of sides with lots of kick to complement and accompany your main meal.

For me, the restaurant’s “48 Hour Wagyu Beef Oyster Blade Steak”is a huge hit. The accompanying white bean and bacon cassoulet, smoked pumpkin, porcini, baby choko, and chilli jam make the dish one of the absolute standouts on the menu. Other patron favorites include, the signature roasts carved tableside, such as the master Kobe strip loin with a marble score of 9 and grain-fed Black Angus prime rib aged for 200 days. FIRE is a great option for every occasion, from a children’s menu for the wee ones to a choice of two private dining rooms featuring degustation menus.

The restaurant’s al fresco area, with the views of swaying palm trees and the Indian Ocean, really gives that Bali tropical feel and sets you in the holiday mood. Why not head up to FIRE early and start your evening al fresco with the “Liquid of Fire, FIRE’s signature cocktail that is a dramatic mix of infused vodka, dried dates, sage leaves, fresh chili, Gomme syrup and curry powder, perfect for a sweet and sour pre-dinner aperitif with kick.
